The full guide
Antigravity vs Claude Code, step by step
Google Antigravity is Google's agent platform: a desktop app for running agents, an IDE and a CLI, on Gemini models with Claude Sonnet and Opus alongside. Claude Code is Anthropic's agent and runs Claude only. The biggest difference is the entry price: Antigravity's individual plan is free with a weekly quota, while Claude Code needs a paid Claude plan from $20 a month ($17 billed annually) or an API key.
Is Antigravity free?
Yes, with a quota. Google's pricing page lists the individual plan at $0 a month, with unlimited tab completions and command requests, access to a range of agent models and "basic weekly rate limits"; its plans page calls it "a meaningful quota, refreshed weekly". Google does not publish the quota as a number of requests or tokens.
Google AI Pro and Ultra in Antigravity
Sign in with the Google account that holds the plan. Google AI Pro, at $19.99 a month in the US, gives "a high, generous quota, refreshed every five hours until the weekly limit is reached". Google AI Ultra gives more, also refreshed every five hours: a higher quota at $99.99, the highest at $199.99. Past the quota, an overage setting decides: Never waits for the refresh, Always spends AI credits. Antigravity has no option to bring your own API key.
For teams, Google sells Antigravity through Google Cloud: Gemini Enterprise Standard and Plus from $30 a seat a month, or pay as you go with no seat fee.
Antigravity vs Claude Code: cost
Both have a paid entry plan at about the same price: Google AI Pro at $19.99, Claude Pro at $20 or $17 billed annually. Both refresh on a five-hour window under a weekly limit, and neither publishes the size as a number. At the top, Google AI Ultra at $199.99 sits beside Claude Max 20× at $200. The details: Claude Code pricing.
Antigravity has no per-token price list for its own quota, so what a heavy day costs there cannot be put in dollars. On the Claude side, my median active day came to $153 at list prices, over 56 active days from 18 July to 2 October 2026 — a figure a Max plan covers inside its limits.
Which models Antigravity runs
Gemini 3.8 Flash on every plan. Gemini 4 Argon on Google AI Pro and Ultra, in the app, the CLI and the IDE extensions but not the Antigravity IDE. Gemini 3.1 Pro and 3.6 and 3.7 Flash are now on Gemini Enterprise only (read 20 October 2026). Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 on Google AI Pro, not on a trial, and on Ultra. Claude Sonnet 4.6 and Opus 4.6 are on the free plan, Google AI Plus and Google AI Pro, not Ultra, and GPT-OSS-120b on all three and Ultra, until 2 November 2026, when Google removes them. Claude used inside Antigravity draws on Google's quota, not on a Claude plan.
Claude Code runs Claude models only, on your Claude plan or an API key, and can reach them through Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud or Microsoft Foundry.
Antigravity CLI vs Claude Code
Antigravity 2.0, released on 19 May 2026, split the product into a standalone desktop app for agents, the IDE, a CLI and an SDK. The CLI is agy, built in Go, and it shares the desktop app's agent harness:
- 1
Install Antigravity CLI on macOS or Linux
- 2
Install it on Windows, in PowerShell
Both are terminal agents with skills, hooks and subagents. They differ in the model and the bill: agy runs Gemini, Claude 5.5 on Google AI Pro and Ultra, and Claude 4.6 on every plan but Ultra until 2 November, all on Antigravity's quota; Claude Code runs Claude only, on a Claude plan or an API key.
Google announced the same day that Gemini CLI would stop serving free, Google AI Pro and Ultra users on 18 June 2026, pointing them to Antigravity CLI; Gemini CLI stays available on paid Gemini API keys and Code Assist Standard and Enterprise licences. Antigravity CLI reads the same GEMINI.md and AGENTS.md files, and agy plugin import gemini turns Gemini CLI extensions into plugins.
Where each runs
Antigravity runs on macOS, Windows and Linux. Claude Code runs in a terminal, in VS Code and JetBrains, in a desktop app and at claude.ai/code.
Which one to pick
- Antigravity — you want an agent for nothing, or you already pay for Google AI Pro or Ultra and want Gemini and Claude in one tool.
- Claude Code — you want Claude on your own Claude plan, with Claude Code's hooks, subagents and MCP, or published per-token prices.
- Both — each needs its own sign-in; Claude in Antigravity and Claude in Claude Code go to different bills.

See your Claude side
Caprock reads Claude Code's transcripts from disk, whether or not it started the session, and prices every call — per session, per project, per model — a list-price estimate as Claude Code's own /usage is, next to the plan's dollars and the share of the weekly limit the work used. It neither starts nor reads Antigravity, the CLI included.
Free, open source; nothing leaves your machine. Install Caprock and it reads back every Claude Code session still on disk.
Questions people ask
- Is Google Antigravity free?
- Yes. The individual plan costs $0 with a weekly quota. Google AI Pro and Ultra raise the quota and refresh it every five hours, up to a weekly limit.
- Can I use Claude in Antigravity?
- Yes. Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 are on Google AI Pro (not on a trial) and Ultra; Sonnet 4.6 and Opus 4.6 are on the free plan until 2 November 2026.
- Is Antigravity cheaper than Claude Code?
- To start, yes: Antigravity has a free plan, while Claude Code needs a plan from $20 a month or an API key. Google AI Pro, at $19.99, costs about the same as Claude Pro.
- What happened to Gemini CLI?
- Google announced on 19 May 2026 that Gemini CLI would stop serving free, Google AI Pro and Ultra users on 18 June 2026, and released Antigravity CLI for them. Paid API keys still work.
- Is Antigravity CLI better than Claude Code?
- Neither is better across the board. Antigravity CLI (agy) runs Gemini, and Claude models that depend on the Google plan, on Antigravity's quota; Claude Code runs Claude only, on a Claude plan or an API key.
- Can Caprock track Antigravity?
- No. Caprock neither starts nor reads Antigravity or its CLI; it reads Claude Code's transcripts and shows what your Claude work costs at API rates against your plan.
- Which is better, Antigravity or Claude Code?
- Neither across the board. Antigravity suits you if you want to start free or already pay for Google AI Pro or Ultra; Claude Code if you want Claude with its own tools on a Claude plan or an API key. This page compares price and limits, not code quality.
